The Middle School Program serves students in grades 5 through 8, with a capacity that typically ranges from 10 to 16 students. Two certified teachers support the program, allowing the classroom to be divided into smaller groups as needed. The staff-to-student ratio is 1:3, unless a 1:1 support is required and approved by the treatment team. Each classroom maintains a low student census to ensure individualized attention and maximize staff availability for each learner. Paraprofessionals offer additional academic and behavioral support. A full time Counselor works in tandem with the team through individual and group counseling while maintaining contact with school districts, families and wrap around services.

The school day is 6.25 hours in length and includes four to five academic periods, with short transitional breaks between classes. In addition to core academics, the weekly schedule incorporates group structured play, physical recreation, adventure-based counseling, individual and group counseling, community outings, and staff-supported social skills activities. Students also participate in Art, Music, and Physical Education classes.

Related services personnel, including occupational therapists (OT) and speech/language pathologists (SLP) and BCBA consutltants provide individualized support services as outlined in each child’s IEP. Classrooms implement a multi-modal instructional approach incorporating visual, verbal, and kinesthetic supports, movement breaks, sensory diets, and individualized behavior plans. Daily reports summarize each student’s classroom performance and are electronically shared with parents/guardians. Quarterly reports document each student’s progress toward annual IEP goals and objectives. Student portfolios are maintained to showcase work samples and monitor ongoing progress. The curriculum is aligned with the New Hampshire State Standards and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

The Middle School Program utilizes a four-tier level system based on the average of the student’s daily point sheets. Areas of focus are: time on task, following directions, respect, work completion, transition and specific target goals. Levels are assessed weekly through goal meetings with the student and counselor.

Expectations for all students:

  • Appropriate Language and Tone
  • Response to Redirections
  • Following Directions
  • Respect Towards Others
  • Time on task

Target Goals:

  • Will be developed with students and the Middle School team.
  • Individualized
  • Connected to IEP Social emotional Goals

Level Bust may occur for the following:

Leave the building without permission, any physical contact, destruction of school property, refusing to go to class, blatant disrespect.

There are weekly goal meetings with opportunities to move up and down or remain on the same level each week. If a student is level busted, they will meet with their counselor but remain on that level until the next goal period.

Field trips/community outings are built into the program as incentives, to enhance program instruction and to provide avenues to practice social skills. A campus wide Student Council provides opportunities for students to be active participants in developing and implementing activities and suggesting ways to improve programs for the school. Student Council Plans additional activities throughout the year which can include Seacoast IDOL, Seacoast Olympics, Schoolwide Kickball, and various Food Contests to raise money for different causes. Awards Ceremonies occur at the end of the year to celebrate student successes.
