Seacoast Learning Collaborative strives to create an all-inclusive community within, and across, all programs on campus. The Adventure Based Learning
Experience (ABLE) Program is a vital part of that effort. Through challenge by choice initiatives group members build self-confidence, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, trust, self-control, and group follower and leadership skills.
With our move to Newton, NH, SLC now has a full-sized gymnasium as well as a large outside field. This allows students to participate in a variety of activities and allows staff to participate with students in settings outside the classroom. SLC has a working relationship with the High-5 organization and has built a Climbing Wall, climbing Cargo Net, Giant’s Ladder, Flying Squirrel and Giant Swing in the gym. Low elements include a Nitro Swing, Bangle Boards and KYooB. In addition, SLC staff have adapted many High 5 and Project Adventure activities to use with students of all ages, including Sportsball, Dodge-Tag, and Mushroom Ball. As part of our work with High-5, SLC staff attend trainings to update their skills and High-5 performs yearly course inspections to ensure that all elements and participants are safe. As we continue to expand our offerings students will have the opportunity to challenge themselves in new ways, learning spotting and belaying skills and participating in high elements at their own individual pace.
All of these skills carry over into the classroom environment and add to our
shared experiences at SLC, helping build a stronger and more cohesive
community.
In addition, at times during the school year parents and other family members are invited to participate in climbing elements with their child.

Group Counseling Services
Group counseling services occur through the Adventure Based Learning Experiences (ABLE) Program. Consistent with individual student IEP goals, all Seacoast Learning Collaborative students participate in weekly and/or biweekly ABLE sessions. Groups build trust in themselves and each other over time as they solve cooperative games and progress through the Low and High Elements.
